Week 6 - Brimrún

Hi,,
So I have a lot of thumbnails and I can't decide which one I like the best.
First I sketched in my sketchbook then when I had some ideas I went to Photoshop and started sketching there.
First one was baste on a other watercolor illustration that I did few months ago. I giant robot in a cave and some monks finding it. I played with values and change the size of the robot/ monk.

Then I did the other thumbnails,
This one is of a guy that crash landed his spaceship, I think I can play with values more on this one.

Here I drew a some kind of a viking that is watching the monster he has to kill. The monster is eating a wale and this monster is called Faxi ( Mane monster in English I think  ), it's an Icelandic monster.

And this one is of a guy that is getting ready to fight a giant.

And the last one, kinda wanted to have a character more closer to the camera and play with perspective. But I need to work on her anatomy so it would look more realistic.
I feel like I can play a lot more with values but I think I need to choose which one I like the best first. Please let me know what you think!

  1. These are very interesting ideas :)
When I have trouble choosing a theme for a painting, at this point, I ask myself where are my strengths, what do I like to do best and what would make my folio better; what would make my folio shine for a job opportunity. The answer to that is different for every artists ;)

In every idea here, you put a character, and I believe that human figure, in general, is something you like to focus on :) But, on each thumbnails, the presence (or focus) on the character is different.

The first one, the monks are tiny and tell the story of them in their journey, making a huge finding. The focus is then more on the finding, than on the character...

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th, the characters are closer, more present, and their story is more about "what do I do next?". They are in a scene, in situation, all with some tension/drama. They are very "narrative" like.

Whereas the last, it's a character concept, all the focus and attention is on her and the rest would be "accessory" to support her, who she is and/or what she does.

There is no "wrong" decision here, I think :)
What would make your folio shine better for a job opportunity you would dream to have? :) What YOU, as an artist, prefer to paint? :) (Per example, the one with the Icelandic monster attract me, because I know it's cultural to you, it tells me more about you and where you're from and since everybody secretly dreams to go in Iceland or ..."viking stuff" you know ;) that could be awesome; but that's just me looking your way and not knowing you deeper than that) ;)

I hope this helps you a little for your decision? :)
